Solar energy for your Home & Business
Generate electricity at home, explore battery storage and take a clearer next step towards your own renewable energy.
REASONS TO GO SOLAR
Use solar electricity at home and reduce the amount you need to buy from your supplier.
Consider a battery, suitable daytime appliance use or compatible EV charging to use more electricity on site.
Roof space, orientation, shading and your household routine all inform the design.
FULL DOMESTIC CALCULATOR
Compare panel count, battery options, roof and usage assumptions.
Explore a solar system for your home using editable sample assumptions.
Illustrative estimate—not a quotation.
Sample installed prices include equipment, installation and applicable tax for a straightforward domestic installation. Extra roof, electrical or access works may cost more.
Single roof, no shading. County and roof factors are approximate. Battery use is a simple annual model, not an hourly simulation. No night-rate charging, standing charge savings, maintenance, replacements, inflation or export tax is included. Export income is before any tax and depends on your supplier and metering arrangements. Roof suitability and grid connection require assessment.
This is an Illustrative estimate—not a quotation. Results use the calculator’s configured prices and assumptions. Final figures require a property assessment.
BENEFITS & SAVINGS
Your savings depend on generation, when you use electricity, battery operation and your import and export tariffs. Bills still include costs such as standing charges. We do not promise a fixed percentage reduction or guaranteed payback.
For illustration only: using 1,000 kWh of solar electricity at home instead of importing it at €0.30/kWh avoids €300 of import cost. Exporting a separate 1,000 kWh at €0.15/kWh earns €150 before any tax. These are arithmetic examples, not E-Solar tariffs or performance forecasts.

Every home is different. Roof-mounted and ground-mounted solar panels offer two ways to generate your own electricity, with the right choice depending on your available space, sunlight and installation requirements.
Roof mounting makes use of existing space on your home or a suitable outbuilding, keeping garden and ground areas free. Panel positioning is designed around the roof’s orientation, pitch and usable area.
If your roof is unsuitable, or you have an appropriate area of land available, a ground-mounted system may offer an alternative. Panels are installed on a purpose-built supporting structure, with positioning and angle planned around the site.
Whether your panels are mounted on a roof or on the ground, every installation is subject to a full suitability survey before work takes place. We explain the options and any requirements so you can make an informed decision.
THE INSTALLATION PROCESS
We assess roof suitability and discuss electricity use during your free, no-obligation visit.
Review a tailored proposal, equipment and any applicable grant requirements before agreeing the work.
Following approvals and connection requirements, complete installation, testing, documentation and system guidance.
DOMESTIC GRANTS & FUNDING
The standard SEAI solar PV grant is up to €1,800. Eligible homes need an MPRN and must have been built and occupied before 2025, without previous solar-PV grant funding at that MPRN. Approval must be in place before works start; a registered company, completion documents and post-works BER are required.
A qualifying battery of at least 5 kWh may receive €600. Eligible welfare recipients may access enhanced support; the calculator does not model those enhanced schemes.
The Home Energy Upgrade Loan Scheme does not fund a standalone solar-PV-only project. Solar may form part of a qualifying wider retrofit; lender and scheme conditions apply.
Good questions. Clear answers.
Yes. Solar PV panels generate electricity from daylight, including on cloudy days. Output varies with the season, weather, shading and roof orientation, with longer summer days generally producing more electricity than winter days.
Suitability depends on your roof’s condition, usable space, direction and shading. South-facing roofs can perform well, but east- and west-facing roofs can also provide useful generation. During your survey, we assess these factors alongside your household’s electricity use.
Yes, we can assess all available spaces for solar panel installation suitability. If you don’t have enough roof space or if your roof isn’t facing an optimal direction we can look at the available space around your house and advise on whether that would be a better option.
The right number depends on your electricity consumption, available roof space, budget and future plans, such as an electric vehicle. We design around your needs rather than simply fitting the largest system your roof can accommodate.
Savings depend on how much electricity your panels generate, how much you use at home and your electricity tariffs. Using solar electricity directly reduces purchased electricity, while eligible exports may earn a separate payment. Our calculator provides an illustrative starting point; your quotation will reflect a more detailed assessment.
No. Solar panels can supply electricity to your home without a battery. A battery stores some surplus generation for later use, which may suit households with greater evening demand. We can explain both options and help you assess the additional cost and likely benefit.
SEAI offers solar PV support for eligible homes, subject to its current scheme requirements. Approval must be in place before installation work begins. Visit the SEAI solar electricity grant page for current amounts and conditions, and speak to us about the proposed installation.
We review your roof, available installation space, electricity use and any battery or EV charging plans. You can ask questions, discuss suitable options and understand what would be included in a tailored quotation. The survey and consultation carry no obligation to buy.
