Solar energy for your Home & Business

SOLAR BATTERY STORAGE

Solar battery storage for your home or business

Store energy now. Use it when you need it.
As part of a new solar installation or a suitable upgrade.

FEATURES & BENEFITS

Make energy available
when your routine needs it.

Store surplus solar

Store some generation for later use, rather than exporting it all during the day.

Explore tariff scheduling

Compatible equipment may charge during cheaper periods. Value depends on tariffs, losses and controls.

Monitor energy use

Review usable capacity, power output, monitoring and compatibility when choosing a battery.

SUITABILITY & SAVINGS

The right battery
starts with your energy use.

A battery shifts electricity between times of day; it does not generate electricity. We assess spare solar generation, evening demand, inverter compatibility, capacity and installation location. Retrofit work may require inverter or electrical upgrades.

Each charge/discharge cycle has losses. Compare the value of energy used later with the export payment forgone, efficiency losses, equipment cost and warranty terms. Larger storage is not automatically better value.

For commercial sites, assess demand and tariff data separately. Peak-demand reduction depends on site billing and controls. Backup is an additional design requirement and is not included automatically.

BATTERY GRANTS & FUNDING

Check eligibility
before ordering equipment.

SEAI offers a €600 home battery grant for eligible systems of at least 5 kWh. The property must have an MPRN, be built and occupied before 2025 and not have received prior battery funding at that MPRN. Where solar PV is present, a post-works BER is required.

There is no assumption here of an equivalent universal commercial battery grant.

Businesses should check their project and equipment against current SEAI supports and financing criteria; confirm eligibility before committing.

THE INSTALLATION PROCESS

A clear route
from enquiry to installation.

01 · Assess the system

Review energy use, existing solar/inverter equipment and the proposed storage location.

02 · Select & approve

Agree usable capacity, power, controls, warranty and any grant application before work starts.

03 · Install & configure

Complete installation and testing, set suitable operating controls and explain monitoring and safe use.

Good questions. Clear answers.

Let’s make
solar simpler.

Wondering about your roof, battery storage or the next step? Start here.

A solar battery stores electricity for use later. For example, it can store some surplus daytime solar generation for the evening, reducing the amount you need to buy from your electricity supplier at that time.

Often, yes, but compatibility needs to be checked. Your existing inverter, electrical installation, monitoring equipment and proposed battery location all matter. Some upgrades require an additional inverter or other electrical work.

.

The right size depends on your surplus generation, evening electricity use and charging arrangements. We consider usable storage capacity and power output together. A larger battery is not automatically better value if your household cannot regularly charge and use it.

Capacity, measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh), describes how much energy the battery can store. Power, measured in kilowatts (kW), describes how quickly it can charge or supply electricity. Both affect which appliances it can support and for how long.

Not automatically. Backup requires compatible equipment and an installation specifically designed for that purpose. Depending on the system, backup may serve selected circuits rather than the whole property. Tell us if backup is a priority so it can be assessed and included in the proposal.

Some systems support scheduled charging from the grid. Whether this offers good value depends on your tariff, battery efficiency, controls and usage. Our solar calculator does not currently include savings from night-rate charging.

SEAI offers a battery grant for qualifying home installations, subject to minimum system size and other eligibility conditions. Approval must be received before installation starts. Check the current SEAI battery grant guidance before ordering equipment or arranging works.

Battery life depends on the equipment, operating conditions and how frequently it charges and discharges. Warranty terms may include limits on years, cycles or energy throughput, as well as retained capacity. These should be reviewed for the specific battery proposed.
